Answers about GED subjects, studying online, course access, payments, refunds and getting started.
About the GED
What is the GED?
The GED is a high school equivalency credential from GED Testing Service. It consists of four subject tests: Mathematical Reasoning, Reasoning Through Language Arts, Science and Social Studies. Passing all four earns you the GED credential.
What mark do I need to pass?
Each subject is scored from 100 to 200, and you need at least 145 on each subject to pass. You can take the subjects one at a time and in any order.
How do I book the official GED test?
Create an account on GED.com and select South Africa. You must first pass the official GED Ready practice test with at least 145 in the subject before you can schedule its official test. Check eligibility, identification, current fees and available appointments there. Our GED in South Africa guide walks through these steps. GED Learning Hub does not run the official test.
Will universities and employers accept my GED?
It depends on where you apply. SAQA compares the GED to the National Senior Certificate at NQF Level 4, and some private institutions, many employers and most universities in the United States accept it. However, a GED obtained in South Africa after 2019 does not qualify for a university exemption from Universities South Africa, so it does not give direct entry to degree study at public South African universities. Before you start, ask the institution or employer you are aiming for, and keep the answer in writing.
Studying with us
How does online GED preparation work?
Each subject is split into modules and short lessons. You read a lesson, work through the examples, then check yourself with a short lesson check. Module tests and timed practice exams help you see which topics still need work. Your dashboard tracks what you have finished and how you scored.
How long does it take to prepare?
It depends on where you are starting from and how much time you have. Many adults take several months to prepare for all four subjects. Your access to each subject lasts a year, so you can work at a steady pace.
Do I need to buy textbooks?
No. Everything you need to study is on the platform.
Can I study on my phone?
Yes. The site works in any modern browser on phones, tablets and computers, and there is nothing to install.
What if I get stuck?
Every question comes with a worked explanation, and you can go over any lesson again and retake lesson checks as often as you like. If something on the site is unclear or not working, you can contact us by email.
Payments
How much does it cost?
Choose Pay in 3 stages: three optional manual payments of R899, R2,697 total. Unlock 1 subject, then 1 more, then the final 2. No automatic debit, interest or future payment obligation. New plans are for learners who own none of the four core subjects. Alternatively pay R2,499 once for all four (save R198), or buy a smaller once-off bundle. Each subject gets 12 months of access from the payment that unlocks it. Official GED test fees are separate.
Can I get a refund?
New purchases have a voluntary seven-day refund policy while each relevant subject is below 10% combined usage. Lesson usage is first access or completion, whichever is higher. Merely viewing an assessment or preview does not count. Confirming Start, or saving/submitting a non-empty answer, counts that assessment once at its planned-time share of the purchased subject, added to lesson usage; the Start screen shows the percentage. Public samples and staff previews are excluded. Staged refunds cover the latest stage only; successfully paying the next stage ends the previous stage's voluntary eligibility. Stage 3 is one R899 refund only if both subjects individually qualify. Existing purchases keep their original rules, including 20%-completion where applicable. Statutory rights remain unaffected. See the Terms for the formula, or email support@gedlearninghub.co.za.
What happens when my year of access ends?
You can no longer open the lessons and tests in that subject. You can buy it again at any time to get another year. Your account stays open.
Does studying with you guarantee that I will pass?
No. We give you the lessons and practice, but no course can guarantee a pass mark, because your result depends on your own preparation and on the official test. Our practice scores are a guide only and do not predict your official GED score.
Are you an official GED test centre?
No. We are an independent test-preparation provider. We are not affiliated with GED Testing Service or the American Council on Education, and we do not issue GED credentials.
How do I get started?
