GED Ready: the official practice test you must pass first
What GED Ready is, why South African candidates must score 145 on it before booking, how it differs from other practice tests and how to prepare for it.

Short answer: GED Ready is the official practice test from GED Testing Service. It is about half the length of the real test and gives a score on the same 100 to 200 scale. In South Africa you must score at least 145 on GED Ready in a subject before you are allowed to book the official test in that subject.
Why it matters in South Africa
The official South African policy says you are required to pass the GED Ready practice test with a minimum score of 145 before you can schedule the GED test. This applies to each subject separately.
GED Ready is bought and taken through your GED.com account, and it is charged per subject. Budget for it together with the test fee; see GED costs.
How it differs from other practice
- GED Ready is written by the same organisation as the real test and is the only practice test that gives an official predicted score.
- Course practice exams, including ours, are for learning: they show which topics you know and which need work. Their percentages are not GED scores.
- Free practice questions help you get used to the question formats, such as dropdowns and drag-and-drop.
When to take it
- Work through the lessons for the subject.
- Take timed practice exams until you are steadily at or above the course benchmark.
- Then buy GED Ready for that subject.
- If you score 145 or more, book the official test soon, while the work is fresh. If not, use the score report to see what to revise.
Taking GED Ready too early wastes the fee. Use it as a final check, not as a first look.
